09 Jul Provincial Court Updates
Dear Upper Midwest Diocese,
The Provincial Court for the Trial of a Bishop published updates on June 23 and July 8 regarding Bishop Stewart’s trial and proceedings. The trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 14, and “will be conducted via a secure internet-based platform.” The Court has also clarified that the trial will take place in private with access only to those who are directly involved in the proceedings. Once the trial concludes, the Court will make its findings and decisions publicly available “in keeping with the Church’s canonical obligations.”
We don’t know how long the trial will take. Upon the trial’s conclusion, the Court has 60 days to present a written judgment. You can read more details in the Court’s update.
Bishop Stewart remains submitted to the canonical process and committed to serving the people of the Upper Midwest.
